Lejeune grew up in a musical and literary environment.

In 1941 he decided to specialise in painting and became a student of Jean Souverbie.

For the next eleven years he continued painting while pursuing other activities: sketches and glass painting for stained-glass windows designed for churches in Normandy and Brittany.

He is one of the most distinguished of modern French religious artists.

Forty years ago he founded L’École d’Étampes.
